How Alpena County Busted Mugshots Begin
A busted mugshot starts at the jail door. When someone is processed into the Alpena County Correctional Facility, run by the Sheriff's Office, a booking photo is taken and logged. Several agencies make arrests here. The Alpena Police Department, sheriff's deputies, and Michigan State Police can all bring someone in, but once lodged at the county jail the person lands in the Sheriff's custody record. The arresting agency keeps the police report; the jail keeps the booking record and image.
Booking involves fingerprints, a property inventory, identification, and charge details passed along by the arresting agency, plus classification and bond or court information when it exists. Selected fields then appear in JailTracker for current inmates. That public entry is a custody snapshot. It can shift as the jail receives updates.
Fields in an Alpena Booking Record
An Alpena booking record can hold more than a face and a name. Much more, in some cases. What appears depends on the facility's own record. A blank field should stay blank. Guesswork should never fill the gap. The official JailTracker interface may expose the items below.
| Field | What it describes |
|---|---|
| Name and identifiers | First, middle, and last name, arrest number, or jacket number used to distinguish records. |
| Book and release dates | The intake date and, when maintained and displayed, the date custody ended. |
| Arresting agency | The police, sheriff, or state agency connected to the arrest. |
| Charges as booked | Charges entered at intake. |
| Bond and court data | Bond terms, court assignment, or a next date when the facility has received them. |
| Image | An Images tab may carry a booking photograph, though an image is not guaranteed for every entry. |
Inmate details and booking photographs went online through the Sheriff's website in 2020. That came with new software. For present custody, the current portal remains the better source. The older report is useful context. Still, it makes no promise about posting speed or which fields appear today.
Requesting Busted Mugshots After Release
Released from custody? A person can drop off the current-custody screen fast. The Sheriff may still hold the booking card, photograph, log entry, or inmate-jacket material. The fallback is the official Alpena County FOIA submission page. A focused request helps staff locate a record that already exists. It should not ask them to create a new report.
- Identify the full name, booking date or narrow date range, arresting agency, and arrest or jacket number if known.
- State whether the request seeks a booking photograph, booking card, log entry, inmate-jacket extract, or release field.
- Route the written request to the Sheriff at 4900 M-32, Alpena, MI 49707, or use FOIA@alpenacounty.org and select the proper department.
- Ask for an electronic copy and for reasonably segregable nonexempt portions if part of the record is withheld.
- Review any fee estimate before authorizing a broad search, then compare the response with the court docket.
The county responds within five business days. A ten-day extension is possible. Email and fax submissions count as received one business day after transmission. Expect possible fees. Search and review labor is billed in 15-minute increments. Paper copies run up to $0.10 per page, plus media, mailing, and supervision costs. An estimate above $50 can trigger a deposit under county policy. Verify the current amount before paying. The instructions in force control.

This is the path that counts once an Alpena County busted mugshot has dropped off the live roster and you still want a copy of it.
Michigan Law on Alpena Mugshots
Michigan FOIA, MCL 15.231 et seq., builds a public-access framework. The exemptions in MCL 15.243 temper it. The Michigan Attorney General's FOIA guidance treats county-jail booking photographs as public records. An agency may still withhold or redact material when a statutory exemption applies. The practical rule is simple. An Alpena booking photo is requestable, though not every image must be released immediately in every situation.
No Michigan law bans mugshot publication. Nor is there a statewide anti-pay-to-remove rule. Juvenile, nonpublic, sealed, and set-aside records demand different handling. MiCOURT excludes juvenile and other protected cases. A public search should never be used to reconstruct a juvenile identity from an old secondary page.
Clean Slate and court set-aside processes touch criminal and court records. They do not automatically erase every copied web page. After an official correction, sealing, or set-aside, contact the source publisher through its free correction process and supply the documentation. RecentlyBooked and Mugshots.com both publish no-fee maintenance routes for qualifying records. Never pay a service claiming it can secretly change an official jail or court file. An obsolete search result may linger after the source updates. Google's outdated-content tool can request a recrawl. It cannot delete the source record itself.
Bond Codes After an Alpena Bust
Those short roster labels get their meaning from Alpena County's Bond Agencies and Payments page. PR means personal recognizance. NO BOND means release is not available under the displayed status. CASH ONLY, 10%, and CASH/SURETY each describe a different payment or security condition. The county posts updates as it receives them. A person may be bonded at any time, so any online value can change.
The official page also breaks out booking, warrant-processing, card, and cash-payment fees. Those are administrative amounts, not punishment. Before paying, confirm the current code, the amount, the accepted method, and the release status. The facility takes calls at 989-354-9830.
Find Alpena County Busted Mugshots
The smartest search path follows the person's custody status. Start with the official county source, then move to records and court channels. An empty screen does not mean no arrest occurred.
- Open the county Corrections & Jail page and follow Current Inmates to the official JailTracker portal.
- Search the name and review agency, book date, charges, bond, court fields, and Images tab that the facility makes visible.
- If no entry appears, call the Sheriff’s main line at 989-354-9830 for routing and file a precise FOIA request for a released or older booking.
- Use MiCOURT or the appropriate Alpena clerk to follow arraignment and disposition.
- For a sentenced state prisoner, switch to MDOC OTIS. For federal or immigration custody, use the separate BOP or ICE locator.
There is no official ACSO same-day booking feed. No multi-day arrest log exists either. No booking-photo app either. JailTracker stands as the online county source. The old Mobile Patrol app went away during the 2020 software change. InmateSales handles video visitation, not mugshot lookup.
Where Alpena County Mugshots Appear
Official channels lead because they identify both the custodian and the custody stage. News stories and secondary republications can supply a dated lead, but they may lag, omit a case, or preserve outdated information after the official record changes.
| Channel | Photo? | Status and use |
|---|---|---|
| ACSO JailTracker | Images tab when available | Official current-facility custody source. |
| County FOIA | Requestable | Official route for a booking photo or record no longer online. |
| MDOC OTIS | Often, with caveats | Official state-prison, parole, and probation search, not a county booking feed. |
| The Alpena News | Story-specific | Local blotters and reports, not a standing mugshot roster. |
| RecentlyBooked | When copied | Unofficial county page with a stated recent window. Verify every item. |
| Mugshots.com | Often | Unofficial archive-style material that may be stale. |
| Arrests.org | For some entries | Unofficial rolling republication, incomplete and not a court record. |
Busted Newspaper and Mugshots.zone had no functioning Alpena County sections, so neither counts as a local source.
Busted and Booked in JailTracker
The Sheriff and Corrections pages both point to the same tool, the Alpena County JailTracker. It answers one question. Who is in custody right now? It is not an archive of old bookings. What appears depends on how the facility sets its options. Released records may not show up at all. Certain fields can be hidden too. The county also makes no promises about timing. There is no set posting schedule, and no fixed window for how long anything stays online.
| Search or record field | How to use it |
|---|---|
| First, middle, last name | Try the most exact known spelling, then broaden carefully. |
| Agency | Check whether APD, ACSO, MSP, MCSO, or another agency is associated. |
| Arrest or jacket number | Use a known identifier to separate people with similar names. |
| Book and release date | Read as custody timestamps, not as a court outcome. |
| Charges, bond, court | Treat as fields received by the jail and verify later changes in court. |
| Images | Look for the tab, while recognizing that every entry may not carry a visible photo. |
The neutral portal view below comes from the official search service:
No individual faces appear on this page. Instead, it points you to where a current Alpena County booking lookup actually begins.
Note: Intake and system synchronization can delay a listing, and disappearance from the roster does not establish dismissal.
Recent Alpena Bookings Without a Feed
Looking for a fresh list of everyone busted in the last day? Alpena County does not publish one. There is no same-day bookings page. There is no multi-day arrest blotter either. JailTracker lets you search current inmates and may show booking dates, but calling it a complete "last 24 hours" feed would mislabel the tool. Someone booked and released within hours can drop off the visible roster before anyone checks it.
A date-bounded list takes a records request. Ask the county for a booking log or a control-center log. Spell out the exact date range you need. Michigan's current GS 11 schedule sets the retention terms. Jail booking and control-center logs stay on file through the end of the calendar year plus seven years, while daily count summaries are kept only through year-end plus one. Those schedules govern what happens to records behind the scenes. They say nothing about what appears on a public website.
Roster, VINE, and Alpena Alerts
Three local systems, three different jobs. JailTracker answers one question: who is in county custody at this moment. MI-VINE and VINELink handle notifications, sending eligible custody or court alerts once you register. CodeRED and IPAWS push emergency warnings. WATZ and WBKB are named as local media partners. None of them amounts to a complete arrest feed. The county Emergency Management page covers CodeRED sign-up and emergency use:
A roster question is never a 911 matter. Call or text 911 only for a real emergency. For non-emergency dispatch, the number is 989-354-9111. Anything about custody or records belongs with the Sheriff's office instead.
MDOC Photos After County Custody
County custody is not the whole story. Once a person passes into state supervision, the Michigan Department of Corrections OTIS search becomes the relevant tool, covering people under MDOC prison, parole, or probation jurisdiction along with some discharged records within its published limits. Search it by name, MDOC number, sex, race, age, status, or location. A photo may show up. Then again, older or unavailable images happen too. The official state search looks like this:
OTIS does not replace JailTracker. The two cover different points in time. The state system applies only after someone enters MDOC correctional supervision. An arrest in Alpena County alone puts no one there.
Where an Alpena Arrest Record Lives
As a case moves along, the right database changes with it. Keeping that distinction straight keeps you from two common errors: mistaking a released person for someone never booked at all, or hunting a county detainee in a state-prison system that has never heard of them.
| Status | Primary source | What happens next |
|---|---|---|
| Just booked or in county custody | ACSO JailTracker | Allow for intake lag, then verify visible fields with the jail. |
| Released from county custody | ACSO FOIA records route | Request the booking card, photograph, or log for a bounded date. |
| Case pending or completed | 88th District or 26th Circuit Court and MiCOURT | Follow the docket to the disposition. |
| State prison, parole, or probation | MDOC OTIS | Use state identifiers and read the status shown. |
| Federal sentenced custody | BOP Inmate Locator | No county booking-photo gallery is supplied. |
| Immigration detention | ICE Online Detainee Locator | Search eligible records with ICE-required identifiers. |
After a Bust: Alpena Court Records
An arrest is only the first step. What follows can go many ways. A person might be arraigned, get bond, and face a preliminary exam or bindover. They could enter a plea, go to trial, or watch counts get amended or dropped. The 88th District Court handles district-level matters and arraignments. Felonies climb to the 26th Circuit Court after bindover. A charge label on a jail page can't capture that whole arc.
For real case detail, MiCOURT Case Search is the official route. One caution from the site itself: the online display is not the official court record. Juvenile and other nonpublic matters are left out. Fees apply for direct requests. The county Circuit Court form lists a $15 search fee per individual, plus certified copies at $10 with $2 per page. Confirm those posted amounts with the clerk before sending money.
The official court search provides the disposition trail:
A blank result online is not proof a case never existed. Search limits explain plenty of empty screens. Contact the right clerk and ask directly.
Alpena’s Current Correctional Facility
Jail records from a few years back may point to a different building entirely. Alpena County moved inmates into its present 94-bed correctional facility on October 31, 2021, after voters approved the project in 2017. The county's facility history page documents the move and separates the current site from earlier jail references. The address today is 4900 M-32 West, Alpena, MI 49707.
Retention rules also explain why "not online" never means "destroyed." Under the GS 11 schedule, inmate jackets, booking cards, mug shots, bond, warrant, and release material are generally kept until release plus ten years, unless a hold or another approved schedule changes the outcome. Start an older-record search with ACSO. Then ask whether the item is still local, was destroyed under authority, or transferred elsewhere.
Michigan's schedules cover far more than the jail's four walls, and the state archives fill in another layer of history. DHHS locations are separate from corrections, but many people confuse the two systems when tracing a family member's past. For archived county jail registers from decades ago, the National Archives holds federal records, while older Alpena registers may sit with the state or a local historical society. Ask ACSO first. They can tell you what still exists and where it went.
Busted Mugshots by Alpena County City
Only two incorporated municipalities show up for Alpena County, so no township got slotted in as a stand-in third city. Each city page names the agency that owns the enforcement report and explains why the county jail can hold a record born from another agency's arrest.
- Alpena Busted Mugshots: Alpena Police Department arrests that lead to county lodging appear through ACSO JailTracker, while APD holds its own incident records.
- Hillman Busted Mugshots: Hillman has no municipal police department. MCSO and MSP provide coverage, and Montmorency County says its inmates are housed at the Alpena facility.
Always read the record itself for the arresting agency, the incident location, and the booking destination. A jail listing alone does not show that the bust happened inside the City of Alpena or the Village of Hillman.
